"Lamb to the Slaughter" Irony Paragraph.

In "Lamb to the Slaughter," Roald Dahl uses irony to make the story realistic. For example, when she tells tells herself “Alright, so I’ve killed him.” right after she hit him with the lamb leg. This shows that she has to find herself an alibi before anything else. This also shows that it is memorable because the characters don’t know that she killed him but the audience knows that she did. In addition, Mary Maloney tells the grocer “Patrick’s decided that he’s tired and doesn’t want to eat out tonight.” when she is at the grocery store buying food (p. 320). This shows that she is lying to the grocer to make herself look innocent. This also shows that it is memorable because she made a very good alibi to cover herself. In conclusion, the “Lamb to the Slaughter” by Roald Dahl is realistic because he uses irony.

Shopping night at Target

After dinner, everyone that was on campus started to aboard the buses. It was around 6:00 when we left the campus and out to our adventure. We arrive to Target around 6:15-6:30, and then we had to wait in this huge line to get our stickers, stickers to show that we are part of the system. About a half an hour had gone by, I got my sticker and ran for a cart (even though I really didn't need one) and ran with Brittany do go and look for things to buy. Then I left Brittany to go and follow Sabrina, then I left her to head to the electronics section. Then I waited to get a phone, but they ran out of all the good ones. I soon left my cart somewhere and looked for something else to buy. After ten minutes I had found it, I found the electronic that I was going to buy. It was the Nintendo 3DS and they only had purple and pink. I hate the color pink, so I choose the purple one. Then I chased one of the workers to get it for me, then I was looking for a game. He came back and told me that I had to hurry and choose a game. So I choose one of the worse ones imaginable. I choose the "Cooking Mama game". I was so ashamed of myself, but then I got over it and went in line to go and pay for my things. Then somebody had a big jar of circus animal cookies, and I was like "Whoa, where did you get those?!?!" then they said "Oh, it's in the cookies section." and I said "Can you hold my spot so I could go and get some???" ad he said "Yeah, just hurry up and go get some." Then I was away, trying to walk fast to the cookies aisle, doing my best not to bump into someone. Then I made it to the cookie section. So I was looking for it and looking, then I couldn't find it. So I go and get a big bottle of coca cola. Then I see Andrew with the same kind of cookies as the other guy did, I go up to Andrew and ask him where he had gotten those animal cookies. He said it was in the cookie section, then he showed me where it was located. So I took the animal cookies and ran. Then I stopped running to walk fast, because I didn't want the soda to explode in my face. Finally I reach my buddy and wait in my line. Then one of the older people had told me that I could not buy my soda but I could keep my animal cookies. Then I was getting closer to the cashier lady, but another older person who is very mean was telling me that I could not buy my cookies. So I was getting very mad and so I told her that the other lady told me that I could buy them. So she let me through and I bought all of my stuff. Then Sabrina and I went in a van instead of a bus and got home early. That is my adventure at the late night shopping trip to Target.

What would you do if two of your best friends went to the movies without inviting you?

If my two best friends went to the movies without me, I would feel very upset. First, I  would go and see what movie they went to. If it was a good movie, I would either call and yell at them or go to the movies and make a big scene about it. If it wasn't a good movie, then I wouldn't really care. But lets say it was a good movie and I go to the movie theater. Then I would go and sit next to them and do a sneak attack, which would scare them a lot and I would be laughing at them for getting so scared easily. In conclusion, I would get mad at them, but I would get them back in the end.

"Notes from a Bottle" Ambiguity Paragraph.

In "Notes from a Bottle," James Stevenson's use of ambiguity engages the reader. For example, the narrator writes,  “There is still no explanation for the flood” during the party.  This shows that it’s ambiguous because you want to know where the flood is coming from.  This also shows that people are going to continue reading to find out on what happens. In addition, the narrator also writes "Cheerful voices can be heard echoing in the fire stairs" before the party. This shows that it keeps the reader entertained because they don't know why they are happy and partying when something so bad is going on. This also shows that the reader is going to want to know why they are partying instead of worrying for their lives. In conclusion, this story is very ambiguous, and it is going to motivate the reader to read more.

Cell phones are not safe to use while driving. For example, somebody told me that they were driving in a lane and all of a sudden this lady comes and drives right in front of her and almost hitting her, also this lady was one the phone talking to someone. Honestly  I can RELATE to this person, because it can be very frustrating when someone is not paying attention and you could get hurt very badly. In addition, a lot of people ASSESS that no one  should talk and text and drive at the same time. This shows that the government should enforce the CONCEPT of no talking/texting while driving. In conclusion, people should not text/talk and drive at the same time unless if it was an emergency.

If you could only take 3 people with you on a trip around the world, who would you take and why?

The three people that I would take with me around the world are: Sabrina, Brittany B. and Jessica K. They are like family to me and it would be really fun to go with them.  We would first go to New Zealand, I have heard many stories that it is very beautiful. The second place we would go to is Greece, so that we can go and sail through the Greek islands. After that, we would go Ireland, because the people are very friendly and have a lot of green rolling hills. Then, we would go to the Caribbean's and enjoy the lovely scenery and try new foods.

What would happen if you woke up in another country and no one could understand you?

I woke up in another country and no one understood me. First I would get up and look at my surroundings. If it was a locked up prison cell, then I would look for a way out or look for somebody that would try let me know where I'm at. If it was a room and a door in it, then I would see if it was open. If it was, then I would walk out and see if somebody could tell me wear I'm at. Once I find someone, then I would draw something out for them and see if they could understand me. If they understand me, then I would see if they can tell me some info on how to get me home, or see why I'm here, in this place. After they give me some of the info that they now, then I would see what I would do. In conclusion, I would use a series of choices to find my answer out of my situation.

Middle of the lake

What would you do if you were in the middle of the lake and your boat began to leak?

If I was in the middle of the lake and my boat started to leak, I would get very irritated. First, I would look for something that would cover the hole and stop the leak. If that didn't work then I would try and get to the shore of the lake. When I can't reach the shore and the water is getting too high, then I would jump out and swim to the shore. Once I reached the shore, I would look at the boat and feel sad, for they're was all of my stuff in it and I would probably never see it again. In conclusion, I would bring something that will stop a leak or leaks the next time I go out in the middle of a lake.

JCCS Academic Language Assessment Week 10

Should women be required to register for the Selective Service. For example, people have VOICED for their opinions and women should not be forced to do things they don’t want. This shows that people do not agree with women being required to register to the draft. This also shows that even though women are equal as men, they don't always have to share the same responsibilities. In addition, there are a lot of FACTORS that bring up problems for the women to have to register for the draft or even sign up for the military. This shows that a lot of men have PLOTTED to kidnap women when and rape them. This also shows that men would give women a lot of sexual-harassment because they think that women aren't worthy enough and that they are lower then them. In conclusion, women should not be required to register for the draft.

If someone cut in front of me

If someone got in front of me while I was in line at the movies, I would be very mad. For example, I would tap that person on the shoulder and tell them how I felt, which would be that I am very upset for you cutting me while I was in the line. This shows that if this person doesn't listen to me than I would have to force them to move. This also shows that if I can't force this person to move then we're fighting. In addition, if this person does move when I ask them nicely, then I wouldn't have to do anything bad. This shows that nothing bad would happen. This also shows that this person was willing to co-operate with me and go back to whever that person was standing in line. In conclusion, there are two ways this problem could end, good or bad.

JCCS Academic Language Assessment Week 9

Junk food should not be banned from high school vending machines. For example, in the PREVIOUS years, like 2001 before the banning on junk food vending machines, the vending machines earned $214,000 in profits, msnbc.com reports. This year, they've only earned $17,000. This shows that companies wont be able to get profit from their consumers. This also shows that there STRATEGY plan might not work, because they wont get enough money from their consumers. In addition, a lot of adults say that there are ALTERNATIVE foods to eat. This shows that adults don't pay attention then they say they do. This also shows that students can't always eat some of those healthy foods, because they are possibly allergic to them or they just don't like them, In conclusion, adults say that junk food in vending machines should be banned, but a lot of people disagree with that thought.

Bugs in my Salad

What would you do if you saw little bugs in your salad?

If they were bugs in my salad, I would be very grossed out. I would tell them and ask for another salad or for my money back and I will make sure they will give me at least one of those two things. Then I would leave that place and never go there ever again. After that I would tell my friends and other people that I know and tell them about what had happened at the restaurant and hopefully that they wont eat there either. In conclusion, I would never go to that place if I found bugs in my salad or in any of my food, including drinks.

JCCS Academic Language Assessment Week 8

The Ten Commandments do not belong in public schools. For example, religious groups can CONSUME  students and convince them of doing things that could be against their own religion. This shows that not everybody who does a religion is good. This also shows that there are different CATEGORIES of religion. In addition, some parents will come by and complain about their children learning different religions and how it is their ROLE to teach them religion. This shows that people should not interfere with students religion. This also shows that parents could have their children transfer to another school, and that would make it look bad for the school and the school district. Overall, public schools should not include the Ten Commandments nor religion.

Finding gold in my backyard.

If I found gold in my backyard, I would go and find someone to see if they can find out if it is real. Then I would see how much I can exchange it for, or sell it. If it is worth a lot then I would get the money and I would go and buy stuff that I need. After I buy the stuff I need, then I would buy other things that I want and donate some of the money to places and people. If I still have a lot of that money left, then I would save it and put it into my bank or pay off loans and bills that I need to pay for. In conclusion, I would sell the gold and make sure I have a lot of money for things that I need and want.

Living under water

If everyone lived under water, then there would be good and bad things about that. For example, there would have to be more expensive under water gear, such as breathing and eating instruments, and different things that people could wear, since they can't wear the same thing all the time and how they are going to wash themselves. This shows that it would be very close to impossible living, but there are still things that will make it possible. In conclusion, living under water sounds really cool and fun, but it is a very complex way of living, unless you were a mermaid or a sea animal.

Lost in the woods and it got dark

If I was lost in the woods and it got dark, I would go and find the nearest tree. Then I would check it and make sure there is nothing dangerous. Then I would try to climb it so that way I will be safe. When I reach the top, I would check if there is anything in there, like bugs, animals, birds, etc. After that, I would go to sleep and try to wake up once there is light out. Taller than the Trees

If I grew taller than the trees, then that would change my life a lot. For example, it would be very hard for me to hide, especially if the government was after me. This shows that I am a very tall person. This also shows that the government are very suspicious people, and if they see something that is not normal, then they would try to capture it to test and examine it, or to destroy it. For instance, people would have to look up to me instead of me looking up to them. This shows that I wont be short anymore. This also shows that I could also have more of an advantage in a lot of things. I could over-look a lot of things, (over trees) and I could beat a lot of people in a lot of sports. In conclusion, I would not like to be taller than the trees because, even though I would have some advantages, I would have a lot of disadvantages as well.

This shows that my ability can be useful and that I might be able to help people out. In addition, I might be able to save people if they are in trouble. This shows that I might be able to become famous like super heroes. This also shows that I am a very helpful person and that I am kind hearted. In conclusion, if I could walk on walls and ceilings, then it would help me and other people in a lot of situations.

Vaccinations should be required for all students. For example, in the 1920's there was a ESTIMATE of children getting diphtheria and then doctors started vaccinating children for that in the 1930’s and then they barely started seeing that illness. This shows that there will be a POSITIVE sign in this century that their wont be a lot of dangerous diseases. This also shows why doctors do vaccinations for children. In addition, doctors can ILLUSTRATE that all the vaccinations are free if you have medi-cal, and it just takes a few minutes of your day. This shows that you don't have to pay. This also shows that you can't use the excuse that vaccinations are too expensive. In conclusion, children should get vaccinations, unless if they are allergic.

If all the streets were rivers

If all they were rivers instead of streets, then that is a bad and a good thing. For example, people would think of it as a beautiful scenery if other people took good care of it. This shows that a lot of areas would get more money from tourism. This also shows that people wont drive as much and there wont be to much pollution. In addition, people might start slacking on their jobs of taking care of the rivers. This shows that people possibly get lazy and things might grow in the rivers and it might get dangerous for people. This also shows that there is a more of a possibility for a shark or a alligator to attack someone (depending where the rivers are connected to). In conclusion, I think that having rivers instead of streets is a pretty awesome idea, and there is a possibility for me to ride a boat.

Cows giving root beer instead of milk

If cows gave root beer instead of milk it would be a bad and good thing. For example, it would be very hard to find milk. This shows that it is a very complex situation. This also shows that some people need milk because they might have low calcium and that is possibly one of the few ways for them to get their calcium. In addition, cows giving root bear instead of milk is good to. This shows that it wont be as complicating to make and it will be less expensive. This also shows that root bear is more natural if cows gave them out instead of milk, so people wont say anything. In conclusion, cows not giving milk and giving root bear has its pros and cons.

JCCS Academic Language Assessment Week 3

I think that parents should regulate their children's diet. For example, parents have to stop buying their children junk food and buy more APPROPRIATE food for their health. This shows that parents have to be more responsible and have more FOCUS on their children. This also shows that parents need to read the ingredients and research what a lot of the food CONSISTS of these days. In addition, kids who eat unhealthy when their younger tend to have a lot more health problems when they're growing up. This shows that kids also have to take part of taking care of themselves. This also shows that parents have to keep an eye on what they eat. In conclusion, I think that parents should have the right to change their children's diet and make them more healthier.

If I could fly, I would go to all of the places in the world that I would want to go to. I would fly as much as I could, and strengthen my wings. I would go to Japan first. Once I go to Japan I would try to learn how to speak Japanese and try to do different things there that I probably never heard of doing. After Japan I would go to New Zealand. At New Zealand I would enjoy the scenery there, look at the beautiful mountain and try different foods there. Once I leave New Zealand I would go to Brazil. When I arrive to Brazil I would go to the amazon forest and look at all the different types of animals and fruits there. Those are all the places I would want to visit, even if I don't have wings I'd still want to visit those three places.

English 10 Academic Vocabulary Paragraph

People should go to jail for harrasing people whether it's from TEXT message or a social networking sight. For example, this article that I found on the internet is about this lady who was reading a section in a magazine, she went to the website that she saw in the section, and it was a website of people posting pictures of different girls and people commenting rude things about them. This shows that people are very disrespectful. This also shows that people will get AFFECTED by how other people talk about them. In addition to the article, people will put things on the internet just to get back at other people. This shows that people can't be mature enough to handle situations properly. This also shows that people need to MAINTAIN themselves so that way they wont go to jail. In conclusion, I think that people should not harass other people and if they do then they should go to jail.

Week 1 vocab paragraph

Video-game makers do not have the right to sell violent video games to minors. Scientists ANALYZE that violent games directly reward violent behavior, such as by awarding points, so kids will try to be bad because they think its good. School shootings, and increase in bullying are DERIVED from violent video games. It’s a fun pastime for most guys and some girls because it can relieve stress but through further EXAMINATION it increases more violent tendencies in a minor. That is why game makers should not sell violent video games so that the rate of bullying and school shootings may decrease.

Prom 2012 Blog Post

When we first arrived at Sea World I was excited and ready to dance and party. When we arrived at the tide pools, I was amazed at the sight of all of the star fishes and how they were multi-colored and they’re are a lot of them to. During dinner, they gave us food and it was really good. They gave us chicked with chicken alfrado. While I was dancing, I felt a little bit uncomfortable, because I'm not used to dancing in front of people and I felt like people were staring at me, so I just sat down most of the night. By the end of the night, I felt tired since it was a long day, and by the time we got back it was midnight, and once I got to my room I just fell asleep.

Romeo & Juliet - Love at First Sight

I do not believe in love at first sight, but, there is an attraction at first, possibly lust, which is what a lot of people mistaken for love. For example, my sister Nikki and her husband met at the SPCA in Canada, which was where my other sister worked at. At first they hated each other, but then they grew to like each other. Then they started to go out with each other and then they got married. Another example is my Aunty Linda and Uncle St. John (pronounced as Sinjin). They met at a park, it was when her dog ran away and he went and got him for her. They started talking and getting to know each other, then they got married and were together for a very long time, now he's dead so they can't really be happy with each other. Romeo and Juliet's love is not sincere because they don't know each other yet and they don't know what they're getting each other into.

SPA Policy Blog Paragraph

One policy that I wish could change is that girls should have guy CASA's. Currently, this policy states that girls  can not have males as their CASA's. One reason it should be changed is that guys get female CASA's while girls can't have male CASA's, which is sexist. Another reason is that a lot of girls need to trust a male so that way they know the male wont hurt them. In order for girls to trust males they need a male CASA to be a positive role model and lead by example. If this policy was changed, I would have a male CASA, but my CASA is already awesome so I wouldn't get rid of her.

Cell phones should be allowed in schools and during class. One good reason about phones is that they could be useful by looking up things faster then a computer, but in CONTRAST kids could be on face book or text messaging to their friends. Another reason is that the CRITIQUE about this situation is that students with good grades and who are mature deserve privileges such as having their phones in school. Lastly, I would want to PERSUADE someone who dressage with phones not being allowed in school. In conclusion, students should be allowed to use their cell phones during school.

Ironic Story Blog Post

Once upon a time there was a lady called Natalie Priester, who was a teacher. While she was taking a shower, her phone started ringing saying she got an email, and that email said that there was no work today. But Natalie P. did not pay attention to her phone because she was in the shower. After that, she got ready and went to work. When she got to her work she realized that nobodies car was there. Poetry Previous Knowledge Paragraph

I have experienced poetry by seeing and hearing my sister read and talk about poetry. When I was in elementary school I was never really a fan of poetry but if it was part of my school; I would try my best on writing poetry or anything close to poetry. When I was in middle school I still wasn't a fan of poetry but like I said earlier, I would still write poetry if it was school related. Outside of school I did nothing close to poetry, actually, I hated poetry and still do. This year I hope to have nothing to do with poetry except for participating in poetry slam with Grandma Jean.
