JCCS Academic Language Assessment Week 17

The benefits of importing Chinese goods do not outweigh the consequences. For example, When items are being IMPORTED from China, they are a lot cheaper. This shows that people could save their money and wont have to pay as much. This also shows that when they EXPORT things to the U.S. they will get more jobs and their economy will get better. In addition, they are very FUNCTIONED with their items that are for sale. This shows that they are smarter. This also shows that they know what they're doing. In conclusion, importing Chinese goods does not outweigh the consequences.

"Lamb to the Slaughter" Irony Paragraph.

In "Lamb to the Slaughter," Roald Dahl uses irony to make the story realistic. For example, when she tells tells herself “Alright, so I’ve killed him.” right after she hit him with the lamb leg. This shows that she has to find herself an alibi before anything else. This also shows that it is memorable because the characters don’t know that she killed him but the audience knows that she did. In addition, Mary Maloney tells the grocer “Patrick’s decided that he’s tired and doesn’t want to eat out tonight.” when she is at the grocery store buying food (p. 320). This shows that she is lying to the grocer to make herself look innocent. This also shows that it is memorable because she made a very good alibi to cover herself. In conclusion, the “Lamb to the Slaughter” by Roald Dahl is realistic because he uses irony.

Shopping night at Target

After dinner, everyone that was on campus started to aboard the buses. It was around 6:00 when we left the campus and out to our adventure. We arrive to Target around 6:15-6:30, and then we had to wait in this huge line to get our stickers, stickers to show that we are part of the system. About a half an hour had gone by, I got my sticker and ran for a cart (even though I really didn't need one) and ran with Brittany do go and look for things to buy. Then I left Brittany to go and follow Sabrina, then I left her to head to the electronics section. Then I waited to get a phone, but they ran out of all the good ones. I soon left my cart somewhere and looked for something else to buy. After ten minutes I had found it, I found the electronic that I was going to buy. It was the Nintendo 3DS and they only had purple and pink. I hate the color pink, so I choose the purple one. Then I chased one of the workers to get it for me, then I was looking for a game. He came back and told me that I had to hurry and choose a game. So I choose one of the worse ones imaginable. I choose the "Cooking Mama game". I was so ashamed of myself, but then I got over it and went in line to go and pay for my things. Then somebody had a big jar of circus animal cookies, and I was like "Whoa, where did you get those?!?!" then they said "Oh, it's in the cookies section." and I said "Can you hold my spot so I could go and get some???" ad he said "Yeah, just hurry up and go get some." Then I was away, trying to walk fast to the cookies aisle, doing my best not to bump into someone. Then I made it to the cookie section. So I was looking for it and looking, then I couldn't find it. So I go and get a big bottle of coca cola. Then I see Andrew with the same kind of cookies as the other guy did, I go up to Andrew and ask him where he had gotten those animal cookies. He said it was in the cookie section, then he showed me where it was located. So I took the animal cookies and ran. Then I stopped running to walk fast, because I didn't want the soda to explode in my face. Finally I reach my buddy and wait in my line. Then one of the older people had told me that I could not buy my soda but I could keep my animal cookies. Then I was getting closer to the cashier lady, but another older person who is very mean was telling me that I could not buy my cookies. So I was getting very mad and so I told her that the other lady told me that I could buy them. So she let me through and I bought all of my stuff. Then Sabrina and I went in a van instead of a bus and got home early. That is my adventure at the late night shopping trip to Target.

What would you do if two of your best friends went to the movies without inviting you?

If my two best friends went to the movies without me, I would feel very upset. First, I  would go and see what movie they went to. If it was a good movie, I would either call and yell at them or go to the movies and make a big scene about it. If it wasn't a good movie, then I wouldn't really care. But lets say it was a good movie and I go to the movie theater. Then I would go and sit next to them and do a sneak attack, which would scare them a lot and I would be laughing at them for getting so scared easily. In conclusion, I would get mad at them, but I would get them back in the end.

"Notes from a Bottle" Ambiguity Paragraph.

In "Notes from a Bottle," James Stevenson's use of ambiguity engages the reader. For example, the narrator writes,  “There is still no explanation for the flood” during the party.  This shows that it’s ambiguous because you want to know where the flood is coming from.  This also shows that people are going to continue reading to find out on what happens. In addition, the narrator also writes "Cheerful voices can be heard echoing in the fire stairs" before the party. This shows that it keeps the reader entertained because they don't know why they are happy and partying when something so bad is going on. This also shows that the reader is going to want to know why they are partying instead of worrying for their lives. In conclusion, this story is very ambiguous, and it is going to motivate the reader to read more.

JCCS Academic Language Assessment Week 15

Cell phones are not safe to use while driving. For example, somebody told me that they were driving in a lane and all of a sudden this lady comes and drives right in front of her and almost hitting her, also this lady was one the phone talking to someone. Honestly  I can RELATE to this person, because it can be very frustrating when someone is not paying attention and you could get hurt very badly. In addition, a lot of people ASSESS that no one  should talk and text and drive at the same time. This shows that the government should enforce the CONCEPT of no talking/texting while driving. In conclusion, people should not text/talk and drive at the same time unless if it was an emergency.

If you could only take 3 people with you on a trip around the world, who would you take and why?

The three people that I would take with me around the world are: Sabrina, Brittany B. and Jessica K. They are like family to me and it would be really fun to go with them.  We would first go to New Zealand, I have heard many stories that it is very beautiful. The second place we would go to is Greece, so that we can go and sail through the Greek islands. After that, we would go Ireland, because the people are very friendly and have a lot of green rolling hills. Then, we would go to the Caribbean's and enjoy the lovely scenery and try new foods.

What would happen if you woke up in another country and no one could understand you?

I woke up in another country and no one understood me. First I would get up and look at my surroundings. If it was a locked up prison cell, then I would look for a way out or look for somebody that would try let me know where I'm at. If it was a room and a door in it, then I would see if it was open. If it was, then I would walk out and see if somebody could tell me wear I'm at. Once I find someone, then I would draw something out for them and see if they could understand me. If they understand me, then I would see if they can tell me some info on how to get me home, or see why I'm here, in this place. After they give me some of the info that they now, then I would see what I would do. In conclusion, I would use a series of choices to find my answer out of my situation.

Middle of the lake

What would you do if you were in the middle of the lake and your boat began to leak?

If I was in the middle of the lake and my boat started to leak, I would get very irritated. First, I would look for something that would cover the hole and stop the leak. If that didn't work then I would try and get to the shore of the lake. When I can't reach the shore and the water is getting too high, then I would jump out and swim to the shore. Once I reached the shore, I would look at the boat and feel sad, for they're was all of my stuff in it and I would probably never see it again. In conclusion, I would bring something that will stop a leak or leaks the next time I go out in the middle of a lake.
