Narrator Assessment Project - Thanksgiving 2011

Story A
My Thanksgiving dinner at the Jammer party was good. I got a poster of me and Frankie, and I got three posters of the Charger Girls. Then Mrs. Jammer told everybody to sit down so we did.  I sat with Jackie, Amy, Hilary, and Phil at one of the small red tables. Then Mrs. Jammer introduced us to Mr.Victor Marx, and he told us a very sad story about his life. Then he told us that he was a master in Martial arts, then he showed us different stunts, and volunteers went up on the stage to do some of those stunts with him. Then we all had dinner and desert, and while we ate desert we saw different types of dancers doing different dances to different songs. That is why the Jammer dinner was awesome.
Story B
Derek thought the Jammer dinner party was good, even though he’s been to the Hall Of Champions in Balboa Park 4 or 5 times. Some parts have been the same like the dancers, but what he liked most was when Victor Marx gave his speech, he thought it was sad, but he also enjoyed it. He talked to a lot of people like Quentin Jammer and some of the other kids, then he ate a lot of Turkey, and stuffing. After the speech he watched the dancers, which gave a really good show, a show that continues to be enjoyable even after 4 years. Then after everything ended at the Hall of Champions everyone, including me, had to leave the Jammer dinner, and then everyone got on the buses and vans and we all left the Hall of Champions.
Story C
A narrator can influence a story by explaining a story or person, but they can also change the thoughts and feelings of a character, or characters. Also, a narrator can influence a story by their voice. For example, a narrator can be reading you a loving soft story, and you would be expecting a soft loving voice, and not a harsh manly voice, it also goes the same for an adventurous story, you would be expecting a person with a manly voice, and you might hear a soft loving voice.
There are some stories that are first person narrative, like Story A, and there are stories that are third person limited, like Story B. In first person narrative the narrator is a character in the story, so that the narrator reveals the plot by referring to this viewpoint character as "I" (or, when plural, "we"). In third person narrative each and every character is referred to by the narrator as "he", "she", "it", or "they", but never as "I" or "we",  or "you".

"The Cask of Amontillado" Before You Read: Revenge

People seek revenge because other people hurt somebody or something they love, or they did something bad in general and that person just got really mad. One reason is that some people have family feuds for generations and they always seek revenge. Another reason is that some family, in the middle of somewhere, they just do something to make somebody mad, that person might try and seek revenge. Lastly, if somebody hurt someone, that persons family might try and kill you or beat you close to death. That is why I think people seek revenge because other people hurt people, somebody, or something they love.

Dragons' Den First Semester Week 13: Saturday

My favorite thing to do on a Saturday is to go to sleep. During this activity I go to bed, and fall a sleep. I do this activity because I'm tired or I'm crashing from having too much caffeine or sugar. I enjoy this activity because I get some sleep that I happen to not have gotten it the night before. I hope to do this all the time because I'm very tired and I didn't get it the night before, and I really don't like going to school that much, so I would prefer to go to sleep everyday or just be really lazy.

Academic Language Week 13 - Video Games

There are some facts that violent video game does not contribute to youth violence. One fact is that some kids get involved with some movies and other media that has violence in it, so it's not just from violent video games. Another fact is that some kids interpret it from the beginning (like when they were born) and that it doesn't just come from video games. Lastly, 80 percent of the kids in this world usually do not get in trouble with video games, but some people believe that it can cause youth to stay out of trouble. That is why I think that violent video game does not contribute to youth violence.

"The Interlopers” Content Paragraph: Another Point of View

It was a dark night, and I was out hunting on George Znaeym's grounds. I hate George so much, I wish I could just kill him. Eventually I met face to face with George Znaeym, and apparently I was lucky enough to see him so that maybe, just maybe I could get away with killing him. After we were cursing at each other, with both rifles raised at each others faces, we heard thunder, then a giant tree fell on both of us before we even got a chance to move out of the way. I just layed there with one of my arms numb and the other free, eventually George stopped struggling, and noticed that I was still alive. After awhile I see figures up ahead, and say "There's figures up ahead, we can be saved once and for all." "Really?" asked Georege, "Really." I said, about five mineutes later I realized my mistake for mistaking our saviors to actually being wolves that are hunting for food. "Hahaha, I guess I was wrong, those arent our saviors but they are wolves. Once the wolves reached us, we had no hope of living from this point on forward, because we were being eaten b the wolves.

Academic Language Week 13 - Video Game Interviews

Andrea's Response: "Video games can negatively influence young people, but rather than ban video games, students should be taught to distinguish fact from fiction."

Kyle's Response: "Violent video games do contribute to youth's violence."

Kristie's Response: "I think a lot of the video games are more violent then they use to be, and I think that if a little kid watches blood and gore it might click on something that would make them more violent."

"The Storyteller" Before You Read: Memorable Books from My Childhood

One feud I am familiar with is the feud between The Baker Family and The Murtaugh Family. These two families dislike each other because Mr. Murtaugh constantly flaunts his wealth and success to Mr. Baker, as well of the accomplishments of his children, often suggesting to Mr. Baker that the Baker children are less successful because of Mr. Baker's parenting style. The families show that they are in a feud by fighting each other over stupid things. As a result of the feud, one of the Baker children is giving birth right at the moment when they were about to break the tie for the Annual Family Cup. The feud will end when everybody gets along with each other!

Dragons' Den First Semester Week 12: Veterans Day

I would not enlist in the military. One reason is that there are some jobs are perfect for some people and being a veteran is not something I want to grow up as. Another reason is that I don't want to die. Additionally, I'm not comfortable handling guns and killing people. Currently I do not plan to actually enlist in the military.

Autobiographical Narrative Final Draft

Have you ever had a conflict with a friend that ended badly? Well I have. When I was 12, I started going to a new school, living in a new neighborhood, and meeting new people... “I was not always that fond on meeting new people”. I thought as I walked to school on my first day that I would not survive because of having experiences of being bullied. That was not until I met Keke. She, in my honest opinion, was the best person that ever lived. When my first friend Jennifer introduced me to Keke, I was the happiest person alive on earth. After being friends for roughly six months we had a conflict with each other.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A Friday I will never forget. Keke and I waited after school to get picked up by her parents to go over to her house so we could hang out. The conflict that we had was that I had some troubles respecting her secrets that she told me, which had given me some consequences with the situation. It all started out when Keke invited me to her house. We went to her room, started talking and sharing secrets. Some of the things she told me were pretty intense. She told me how her family abused her, she had problems with her girlfriend cheating on her, and that she had stabbed somebody before. I still do not know why she told me all those things, but she did. I also thought that since I never really had a friend before, maybe I could be there for the real friend I would actually get to keep.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One Wednesday in the middle of math class this girl named Clarrissa, who happened to usually be mean to me, was actually being nice. I do not know what I was thinking but Clarrissa and I were in the back of math class whispering to each other about Keke and her secrets. While I was determined on telling her the precious information, I noticed her facial expression; she happened to be very surprised. We were talking until the teacher separated us. After class, Clarrissa went and told other people what I just told her about Keke’s situations which made me feel guilty. It made me realize that I was very wrong for telling her Keke’s secrets.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I woke up that Saturday morning in an upright bolt, I was panting because of the terrible nightmare I just witnessed. My nightmare was reflected on my choices by not respecting my friends privacy.This left me to face multiple consequences. When I talked to Keke she told me that I could not hang out with her and that she would not forgive me. Eventually I went to school the next day and found out that not only Keke and my friends hated me, but almost the whole entire campus did. After school I felt guiltier then I ever had before.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I realized that I was innocent  and very wrong to hurt my friend like that. When I  think about what I did to Keke, I always feel terrible. I will never hurt any of my friends ever again, even if my life depended on it. If you want to know what my controlling impression was, I felt I was innocent and ignorant. Now that I have become more compassionate and understanding, I have matured and learned from the situation. I happened to hurt my best friend by spreading rumors about her and that left me with consequences to deal with. The experiences of this situation made me realize not to go over peoples boundaries and how to choose my friends wisely.

First Person Narrator: House Parent/Lead Staff Point of View Jackie

As I walked into Girls 5 today, I thought "They better hurry up, and open this freaking door!!!". Then, I went inside the house once the staff hurried up and opened the door. When I went inside the house I decided to go to the Tech center so I could finish my homework, but I had to stay til' 3:30, and in that time moment the house and I had to do teen topic. Later, I finally went to go do my homework, and once I opened my blog I found it all pink and girly and some chic as my profile picture, and to tell you now that I was really confused. As I went off shift, I felt annoyed and happy that I did my homework at the same time, and you know that I really don't have to tell you why I was annoyed.

Dragons' Den First Semester Week 11: Sports & Grades

Student athletes should be required to have good grades in order to play sports. One reason is because everybody needs to be smart in order to survive in the adult world, so schooling should come before sports, or any other fun activity. Another reason is that you need good grades and have a 2.0 to get most jobs, and some sport jobs. Additionally, if you have good grades in high school there's more of a chance for you getting scholarships in collage and getting a good sport job. In order to help student athletes, schools should give them more work to do.

Academic Language Week 11 - Health Care

I think that all Americans should have the right to free health care. First, a lot of Americans spend all of their money on Medical expenses that it has became an issue to people because they are losing a lot of their money. Secondly, there is a lot of evidence of millions of children who have no health care, and are dying of different illnesses because they can't get free health care. To summarize, health care should be free to all of the Americans in America. That is why I think health care should be free to all the Americans in America.
